DPD, founded in 1977, is an International Courier with its head office based in Aschaffenburg in Germany. In its first year DPD sent 1.4 million parcels, but now - over 30 years later - sends over 2 million parcels every day.
Originally DPD stood for Deutscher Paket Dienst meaning German Parcel Service, and now stands for Dynamic Parcel Distribution (or Direct Parcel Distribution in some countries).
Operating over 800 depots in more than 40 countries, DPD employ over 24 thousand staff worldwide and more than 18 thousand vehicles.
Geopost (a subsidiary of La Poste, a French Postal Company) is the majority shareholder with an 83% holding.
In 2001 La Poste acquired Parceline, a UK Carrier, which was subsequently rebranded as DPD in March 2008 along with Irish Parcel Service Interlink.
